Hi, I'm Thelma Nascimento

Therapist, social worker, parental educator, perinatal educator, author, and mother of two boys.

My work is centred around women, mothers, parents, couples, and families who are trying to create more connection, calm, and understanding in their relationships.

Before becoming a therapist, I studied Biological and Health Sciences in Brazil, and later completed my Social Work qualification in Australia. Over the years, I have continued to study deeply in the areas of mental health, neuroscience, child development, attachment, perinatal education, infant sleep, digital wellbeing, family relationships, and protection from violence.

But my work is not shaped by qualifications alone.

It is also shaped by lived experience

I know that family life can be beautiful and meaningful, but also exhausting, messy, lonely, and overwhelming. I know what it can feel like to hold many roles at once: mother, partner, professional, daughter, woman, and the person who often carries the emotional weight of the family.

This is one of the reasons I became so passionate about supporting mothers and families. So often, a mother reaches out because her child is struggling, there is more conflict at home, or she feels disconnected from her partner. But underneath that, there is often something deeper: guilt, pressure, identity loss, emotional overload, old patterns, and the quiet question, “Why does this feel so hard?”

My approach brings together clinical knowledge, social work, neuroscience, attachment-based parenting, child development, and a deep respect for each person’s story. I do not see behaviour, conflict, anxiety, anger, or disconnection as isolated problems. I look at the whole picture: the person, the family system, the relationships, the environment, the pressures, and the real-life demands that shape how people feel and respond.

I am especially passionate about helping parents understand what their child’s behaviour may be communicating, while also helping them reconnect with themselves. I believe that to truly understand and connect with our children, we also need space to understand and connect with ourselves.

Therapy with me is a partnership

I am not here to judge, blame, or tell you there is one perfect way to do family life. I am here to listen closely, help you make sense of what is happening, and support you to move toward a life that feels calmer, clearer, and more connected.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you come. You only need a place to begin.
