Mindfulness Therapy

Building openness, curiosity and compassion

Mindfulness Therapy helps people build awareness of the present moment with more openness, curiosity, and compassion. It is not about emptying the mind, being calm all the time, or pretending life is peaceful when it is not. It is about learning to notice what is happening inside and around you, so you can respond with more choice rather than reacting automatically.

In family life, so much happens quickly. A child screams, a partner says something sharp, the house feels chaotic, and suddenly your body reacts before you have had time to think. You may feel tense, angry, overwhelmed, or flooded. You may snap, withdraw, cry, or try to control everything. These reactions often make sense, especially when you are tired, overloaded, or carrying unresolved experiences from the past.

Supporting a deeper connection with self

Mindfulness creates a pause. It helps you notice your thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and urges in the moment. That pause may be small, but it can be powerful. It can help you recognise, “I am feeling overwhelmed,” “My body is in threat mode,” “This is touching something old,” or “I need to slow down before I respond.”

For mothers and parents, mindfulness can support a deeper reconnection with self. When you are constantly caring for others, it is easy to lose touch with your own needs, limits, emotions, and inner voice. Mindfulness helps bring you back to yourself, not as another task to perform, but as a way of becoming more present in your own life.

Supporting parent-child relationships

Mindfulness can also support parent-child relationships. When a parent is more aware of their own internal state, they are often better able to see what may be happening underneath a child’s behaviour. Instead of immediately reacting to the tantrum, defiance, clinginess, or anger, there is more room to wonder: What is my child trying to communicate? What do they need from me right now? What do I need in order to respond well?

In my work, mindfulness is used in a grounded and realistic way. It is not about perfection or constant calm. It is about helping you feel more connected, more aware, and more able to meet difficult moments with steadiness and compassion.
